How did the idea of a cottage inspire our website?

IDEAS COME FROM different places: conversations, things we read, random thoughts, brainstorming and connections we make. The idea for our website’s name came from a cottage that was for rent behind an old two-story, white-framed house that had once been home to a farm.

The current owners of the house renovated an old shed, transforming it into a three-room cottage with honey-colored oak floors, peach walls and white molding. Within days of advertising it, they had had numerous calls. One of those calls was from my daughter Jenny.

Jenny, a hairstylist, had been looking for a place to call her own.  When her father and I saw it, we knew she had found a unique home for her hair salon.

As Jenny took care of the arrangements and purchases needed to open the salon, I began thinking about what a cottage means to people. Many of us connect “cottage” with home, family and the lives we build with the people we love. Out of our lives come stories that bind us together and create lasting memories. I had an epiphany: create a website for people to share their stories and memories.

When Jenny’s clients come to her salon, they find a warm, inviting, relaxing place, where they can rejuvenate and savor being pampered and made to look their best. While they are there, they laugh and talk, sharing the stories of their lives.

Just like Jenny’s clients find her salon a place where they can talk and share stories and ideas, we, too, hope you will share your stories with us and discover how alike we all are.                                                                                                                                          storiesfromacottage.com
